A 28-year-old man from Ditchingham has been sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment at Norwich Magistrates’ Court after repeatedly exposing himself and masturbating at passengers aboard passing buses.

Malachi Benjamin, of Ditchingham, Norfolk, appeared for sentence following an investigation into a series of coordinated public exposure incidents occurring across South Norfolk.

The court was told that Benjamin deliberately targeted public transport vehicles, focusing his activity on the X41 First Bus service as it traversed Hollow Hill Road and Loddon Road in the village. Prosecutors outlined how Benjamin timed his actions to ensure passengers and drivers travelling past were forced to view his sexual behaviour. On certain occasions, Benjamin was found standing fully unclothed apart from a bobble hat, while on others he stood with pyjamas around his feet while carrying out sexual acts.

The court heard that Benjamin had an established record for identical conduct, having previously been convicted for exposing himself to members of the public in Thetford across 2022 and 2023. His recent convictions demonstrated a continuation of this non-consensual sexual behaviour in open spaces.

Under the provisions of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992 and Section 49 of the Children and Young Persons Act 1933, any victims of sexual offences or child witnesses connected to the case are entitled to automatic, lifelong statutory anonymity. Publishing, broadcasting, or disseminating any details, names, addresses, or images capable of leading to the public identification of protected complainants is strictly prohibited under UK law.

Benjamin pleaded guilty to:

Three counts of exposure

Three counts of outraging public decency

The bench handed down an immediate custodial sentence of eight months’ imprisonment. Under standard UK statutory provisions for short determinate sentences, Benjamin is required to serve 50 per cent of the term in prison custody before release on licence under probation supervision, subject to strict conditions and recall.

Alongside the custodial term, the court confirmed:

Statutory notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register under the provisions of the Sexual Offences Act 2003

Community supervision and licence conditions upon his release from custody
