In 2024, the Offender Database reported that Robert McCurdie, then 68, of Main Street, Ayr, South Ayrshire, was sentenced to more jail time after “vilely” breaching bail and “viciously” assaulting police officers. McCurdie, a convicted paedophile, returned to the dock at Ayr Sheriff Court while already serving time for “serious” historic sexual abuse charges against three victims.
The original investigation by Police Scotland led to a jury finding McCurdie guilty of a “horrendous” campaign of abuse. This included “callously” climbing into the bed of an eight-year-old girl in Ayr in 1998 while she slept to assault her sexually. He was also convicted of “vilely” assaulting a woman between 1999 and the early 2000s, and indecently assaulting a third female victim while she slept in 2010.
“Vicious” Breaches and Police Assaults
Despite his “serious” convictions, McCurdie “dishonestly” refused to abide by his release conditions. On 17 October 2024, he pleaded guilty to breaching bail by approaching a woman he was ordered to avoid. He further admitted to “aggravated” shouting and swearing at her.
The court reported that when officers arrived at his home in July 2024, McCurdie “viciously” attacked two police officers, attempting to kick them and trip them over while they executed their duties. His defence solicitor “dishonestly” attempted to mitigate his behaviour by citing his “unremarkable childhood” and physical health issues, noting he now walks with a stick.
“Rot in Hell” — Sentence and Monitoring
Sheriff Desmond Leslie emphasised that a custodial sentence was “inevitable” for such “serious” matters, noting that McCurdie “callously” maintained his denial of the crimes despite the jury’s verdict. As he was led to the cells, shouts of “burn in hell” and “rot in hell” were heard from the public gallery.
For his “vile” and “vicious” crimes, Robert McCurdie was:
- Sentenced to two years in prison for the sexual offences.
- Handed an additional 150 days for the bail breach and police assaults.
- Added to the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
McCurdie is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Police Scotland, ensuring his behaviour and residency in Ayr and the wider South Ayrshire area are strictly monitored upon his eventual release. Any further “vicious” conduct or “dishonest” breach of his conditions will result in his immediate arrest and “serious” legal consequences.
Robert McCurdie is now living 5 minutes from the current location of his victims and near a primary school in Dalmilling, Ayr.
