In 2021, Richard Anthony, a then-45-year-old man from St Ives, was jailed for over two years after attempting to groom a child he believed to be a 13-year-old child online.
Richard Anthony, of Laburnum Way, St Ives, was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court on Friday, 4 June 2021, after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to attempting to incite a child aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity. The court heard that beginning in January 2019, Anthony communicated online with an individual he believed was a 13-year-old girl, repeatedly asking for photographs and proposing they meet for “naked massages”. However, the account was operated by an undercover police officer. Cambridgeshire Police officers raided Anthony’s home on 18 June 2019 and seized his electronic devices.
The judge sentenced Anthony to two years and four months in prison.
Following his conviction for child sexual offences, Anthony was placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
He also remains subject to statutory public protection notification requirements and long-term risk management protocols by law enforcement upon any eventual release from custody.
