A “high-risk” paedophile from Freshwater on the Isle of Wight, Peter Trayner, apprehended in 2017 with nearly 700,000 child sex abuse photographs, has violated the regulations of the Sex Offenders’ Register for the fourth time.

Peter Trayner, residing on Queens Road in Freshwater, appeared before the Isle of Wight magistrates on Friday, May 16.

The 75-year-old acknowledged noncompliance with the notification obligations of the Sex Offenders’ Register in Newport on April 26.

Prosecutor Lauren McConnell stated that Peter Trayner was a registered sex offender classified as a high-risk offender, having been convicted of possessing indecent photographs of children in February 2017.

As previously stated, he was incarcerated for 29 months following the discovery of 738,000 obscene photographs of children on his computer.

Ms. McConnell stated that he was scheduled to register with the police on April 26, failed to do so punctually, marking his fourth violation since his sentence.

Ms. McConnell stated that his most recent infraction occurred in June of the previous year when he neglected to timely register a bank card with the police, and Peter Trayner is presently on two community orders from the crown court.

Oscar Vincent, in defence, stated that Peter Trayner was obligated to register annually.

He stated that he is elderly and had memory lapses, and he visited the police station on April 29, believing he was a day early.

Mr. Vincent stated that Peter Trayner was astonished to discover he was, in fact, two days overdue.

Traynor, who convinced magistrates that none of it was intentional, had his case postponed to June 13 at the Isle of Wight Crown Court.

He was awarded unconditional bail until that date.

UPDATE 17.06.25

A “high-risk” paedophile from the Isle of Wight, Peter Trayner, who was apprehended in 2017 with almost 700,000 child sex abuse photographs, has evaded incarceration despite violating the Sex Offenders’ Register for the fourth time. He appeared at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Friday, June 13, for sentencing.

The 76-year-old had previously acknowledged noncompliance with the notification obligations of the Sex Offenders’ Register.

Prosecutor Tim Devlin stated that Trayner is classified as a high-risk offender, having been convicted of possessing indecent photographs of children in 2016, 2017, and 2023.

Mr. Devlin informed the court that Trayner was scheduled to register with the police on April 26 but was two days tardy, constituting a fourth violation of his order.

He previously violated the terms in June of last year by failing to register a bank card, resulting in a community order issued on August 30, as stated by the court.

Judge Ashworth stated that Trayner had previously received a 29-month prison sentence after 738,000 indecent photos of children were discovered on his computer.

He also informed Trayner: “You pose a risk of reoffending.”

Notwithstanding this, Judge Ashworth stated he would impose a “brief, suspended sentence” on Trayner.

Trayner was sentenced to four months of jail, suspended for a duration of 12 months.

No further community component was incorporated into Trayner’s sentence as he remains under a community order.
