In 2022, Paul Newcombe, the Doncaster Rapist, who violated a woman’s trust and sexually assaulted her at her residence, was sentenced to almost five years in prison.
Paul Newcombe, having gained entry to his victim’s residence, entered her home one evening earlier this year and assaulted her while she was asleep.
The victim subsequently informed the police that she initially attempted to disregard the situation and feigned sleep, before awakening and enquiring about his actions.
Paul Newcombe, from Doncaster, absconded, but the woman contacted the police, resulting in his arrest.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police stated: “During his interview, Paul Newcombe acknowledged that the victim had not consented to sexual intercourse and recognised its wrongfulness, yet claimed ‘he couldn’t help it’ and that ‘it got out of hand’.”
Detective Sergeant William McLean stated, “My thoughts and gratitude are with the victim, who has been central to our investigation.”
“Her displayed bravery has been commendable.”
Paul Newcombe, 57, previously residing on Broadwater Drive, confessed to rape at Sheffield Crown Court and received a sentence of five years and eight months in prison.
