On 5 August 2026, Mohammed Younas, aged 31, of Bearsted Drive, Pitsea, was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court to nine years and two months in prison, with an additional three-year extended licence, after pleading guilty to child kidnap, sexual offences, and drug dealing charges.
The court heard details regarding an investigation launched by Essex Police following an incident on 30 April 2026. Prosecutors outlined how a young girl was walking home alone in Basildon after visiting a shopping centre and roller-skating with a friend. As she reached Parkside, Younas began following her on foot.
After the victim declined his approach, Younas grabbed her, covered her mouth, and forcibly dragged her along a pathway into a secluded area of bushes. While holding the victim on the ground, Younas warned her not to scream and threatened her by claiming he was armed with a knife and a gun. He then threw away her mobile phone and fled the scene.
The victim returned home safely and disclosed the assault to her mother, prompting an immediate police response. Detectives launched extensive local enquiries, house-to-house checks, and forensic analysis.
By 3 May 2026, forensic examiners isolated DNA recovered from the victim’s shoe, yielding a direct match to Younas. Officers attended his residence in Bearsted Drive, Pitsea, and arrested him on his doorstep. Subsequent searches of his property uncovered a commercial drug supply operation, including 66 grams of cocaine, 132 grams of cannabis, scales, and a burner phone.
Although Younas initially submitted a prepared statement claiming the victim had struck his vehicle, he changed his plea when presented with the forensic evidence and consistent account provided by the victim.
Younas admitted charges of kidnap, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, being concerned in the supply of cocaine, possession of criminal property, and possession with intent to supply cocaine and cannabis.
