A 29-year-old man has admitted breaking into a family home in Cardiff and performing an indecent act in front of two sleeping sisters in their bedroom doorway.
Mohammed Abbas appeared at Cardiff Crown Court, where he entered guilty pleas to serious sexual and dwelling burglary indictments following an inquiry by South Wales Police.
The court was told that the offences took place at around 2:00 am on 30 July 2026 at a residential address in Cardiff. Two sisters—one aged under 13 and the other under 16—awoke to find Abbas positioned in the doorway of their bedroom. Abbas had exposed his genitals and was actively carrying out a sexual act in their presence.
The children screamed, alerting their parents to the intrusion. The victims’ mother told investigators that the household had no prior knowledge of Abbas and remained unaware of how he managed to gain entry to the property. Before departing the address, Abbas took a mobile telephone and a set of AirPods belonging to the occupants.
The court heard that Abbas had crossed the English Channel to Britain by small boat from France in March. In June, he was held on remand facing allegations of assaulting an emergency worker and assault by beating. On 14 July 2026, magistrates at Coventry Magistrates’ Court sentenced him to 300 hours of unpaid work alongside a £100 fine for those offences, while separate charges of sexual assault and common assault were dismissed after the prosecution offered no evidence. Following his release from custody, Abbas was allocated a two-bedroom property in Cardiff as the sole occupant. The break-in at the sisters’ residence occurred two days after he moved into the property.
Under the provisions of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992 and Section 49 of the Children and Young Persons Act 1933, all victims of sexual offences and child witnesses or complainants involved in court proceedings are protected by automatic, lifelong statutory anonymity. Disseminating, publishing, or broadcasting identifying details, names, addresses, educational facilities, or photographs relating to either child is strictly prohibited under UK law.
Abbas entered guilty pleas to:
Trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence
Two counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child for sexual gratification
Burglary
The court remanded Abbas in prison custody ahead of his formal sentencing hearing, which has been listed to take place at Cardiff Crown Court in November 2026.
