Mark Thompson, the Aberdare Paedophile, perpetrated sexual assault against a youngster for two years, commencing when the victim was eight years old.
The youngster recognised the wrongdoing, although he was too intimidated to disclose it to anyone. He concealed his experiences for over a decade—until 2021, when he courageously revealed the assault he endured at Mark Thompson’s hands.
An inquiry commenced, resulting in Mark Thompson’s arrest and subsequent charges.
The case proceeded to trial, resulting in Mark Thompson’s conviction for multiple sexual crimes.
On Friday, April 28, the 39-year-old was sentenced to 16 years in prison for rape, soliciting a juvenile to participate in sexual behaviour, and sexual assault.
Detective Constable Emma Songhurst, who led the case, said:
“I would like to commend the victim and their family for the courage they have shown throughout this investigation.
“Every child has a right to grow up free from fear and abuse, and I hope this case demonstrates our dedication and determination to pursue justice for anyone who has suffered like this.
“I would encourage anyone who has been the victim of a similar crime to report it to us, regardless of how much time has passed, as the crime will be fully investigated, and they will get our full support.”
