In this report from October 2022, Kyle Jago, aged 24, of Higher Road, Knowsley, Liverpool, was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment (48 months) at Manchester Crown Court on Wednesday, 26 October 2022, after pleading guilty to child sexual offences.
The criminal investigation commenced in June 2022 after the victim’s family discovered evidence of sexual grooming on the girl’s mobile device and alerted Greater Manchester Police.
The court heard that Jago contacted the vulnerable teenager via an online messaging app in May 2022.
Jago groomed the child over the platform before organising an in-person meeting in Bury later that month, where he engaged in inappropriate sexual behaviour with her.
Following changes in the child’s behaviour, the victim’s mother and aunt inspected her phone and uncovered the correspondence, leading to an immediate police referral.
On 22 June 2022, officers arrested Jago at his home in Merseyside and transported him to Bury Police Station, where he gave full admissions during interviews with the Child Sexual Exploitation Team.
Appearing before Manchester Crown Court, Jago entered formal guilty pleas to multiple child sexual offences.
The presiding judge handed Jago a custodial sentence of four years’ imprisonment.
The court also made Jago subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and ordered that he remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation applicable in October 2022 following the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022, offenders receiving determinate sentences of four years or more for serious sexual offences must serve two-thirds (32 months / 2 years and 8 months) of their total 48-month term in prison custody before becoming eligible for statutory release on licence. Jago’s release date on licence fell in June 2025, whereupon he remains subject to licence conditions and supervision in the community until the expiration of the full sentence in October 2026.
