Karen Murerwa, aged 34, of Seaton Crescent, Nottingham, has been sentenced to six years and four months’ imprisonment at Nottingham Crown Court after luring a teenage schoolgirl into her home, locking her inside, and carrying out a serious sexual assault.
The offences took place on 10 March 2026 after the victim, who was unknown to Murerwa, was approached while walking in the local area.
Murerwa convinced the child to return with her to her house on Seaton Crescent.
Upon entering the address, Murerwa locked the entrance door behind them.
The court heard that the victim grew frightened and attempted to observe where the door keys were kept in the hope of returning home safely.
Murerwa exerted further control by supplying the child with alcohol, confiscating her mobile phone, and forcing her to send a text message to her mother claiming she was visiting a friend.
The victim was subsequently taken to an upstairs room where Murerwa subjected her to a sustained sexual assault before finally allowing her to leave the premises.
The victim disclosed the offences to authorities, prompting an immediate investigation by Nottinghamshire Police that resulted in Murerwa’s arrest and formal charge.
Murerwa entered guilty pleas to:
- Two counts of sexual assault by penetration
- One count of false imprisonment
At Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, 10 September 2026, Judge James Sampson sentenced Murerwa to six years and four months’ imprisonment (76 months).
Judge Sampson commended the child for her bravery in reporting the offences, stating that her actions may have saved another child from suffering a similar ordeal.
Detective Sergeant Nicola Roddis-Ferrari praised the survivor’s fortitude, noting that Murerwa had exploited the young victim’s kindness before subjecting her to a traumatic assault.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court granted an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and ordered Murerwa to comply with the statutory notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of her life.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing standard determinate custodial sentences under seven years, Murerwa is entitled to statutory release on licence at the halfway point. She will serve one-half (38 months / three years and two months) of her 76-month sentence in prison custody before release on licence to complete the remainder of the sentence under the supervision of the Probation Service in the community.
