A 26-year-old man who carried out a savage attack involving intentional strangulation, death threats, and multiple rapes against a woman has been sentenced to an extended term of 23 years at Mold Crown Court.
Jordan Jones, of South View, Chirk, appeared for sentence on Monday 5 October 2026. He had previously entered guilty pleas to nine criminal charges following an investigation by North Wales Police into the horrific assault, which left the victim with catastrophic internal injuries.
The court heard that the incident took place in February 2026 in the Chirk area. Over the course of the evening, Jones subjected the woman to terrifying threats, stating that he would kill her. The situation escalated into severe physical violence when Jones attacked and strangled her. When the survivor made desperate efforts to escape his grasp, Jones dragged her back down to the floor, repeated his threats to end her life, and violently raped her.
During the prolonged attack, Jones told the victim: “I will show you what a rapist can do.” The physical violence inflicted during the rapes resulted in extensive internal trauma. Medical professionals responsible for examining and treating the survivor remarked that her injuries were the most severe they had ever encountered.
Under the provisions of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992, victims of sexual offences are entitled to lifelong statutory anonymity from the moment an allegation is made. It is a criminal offence to publish, broadcast, or disclose any details, including names, addresses, or photographs, that could lead to the identification of the complainant in any newspaper, broadcast, website, or social media outlet.
Emergency services were alerted after reports were made concerning a woman in significant distress. Uniformed officers quickly attended the location to secure the scene, provide trauma support, and arrange immediate hospital care for the survivor. Simultaneously, officers located Jones sitting in a car parked nearby. He was arrested, brought into custody, and remanded pending court proceedings.
Facing overwhelming evidence, Jones entered guilty pleas to:
- Four counts of rape
- Two counts of sexual assault
- Threats to kill
- Intentional strangulation
- Assault
Recognising the grave danger Jones poses to the public, the judge at Mold Crown Court passed an extended sentence of 23 years, consisting of 18 years in custody followed by five years on extended licence.
Under current statutory sentencing guidelines for dangerous offenders convicted of serious sexual offences, Jones will be required to serve at least two-thirds of the 18-year custodial term in prison before the Parole Board will consider him for conditional release. If released prior to the conclusion of the 18 years, he will spend the remaining period, plus the five-year extension, subject to strict probation supervision and immediate recall to custody upon any breach.
The court also placed Jones on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely and issued a lifetime restraining order prohibiting him from having any contact with the victim.
Investigating officer Detective Constable James Grimwood commended the victim and the police response:
“This was a sustained attack by a truly despicable offender who inflicted brutal violence on the victim, leaving her with devastating physical injuries and emotional distress – for which he has shown no remorse.
“She has undergone trauma that no one should ever face and it is testament to her extraordinary courage that Jones will rightly serve a considerable amount of time in prison, where he can cause no further harm. I hope this outcome provides some measure of reassurance and closure, as she continues her recovery.
“I would also like to thank the heroic response by uniformed colleagues on the night, who were quick to attend and safeguard the victim, whilst other colleagues were able to apprehend the defendant without delay. Tackling violence against women and girls remains a foremost priority for North Wales Police. We are committed to identifying perpetrators, pursuing justice, and ensuring that victims receive the protection and support they need.”
