On Friday, July 17, 2026, a man was convicted of rape after he assaulted a woman while she was asleep at Grimsby Crown Court.

He has been remanded into custody and will return to the court on Friday, August 14, 2026, to be sentenced, following a five-day trial in which a jury found him guilty of rape.

Jonathan Matthew, a 30-year-old resident of Scunthorpe, was charged with rape, sexual assault by penetration, criminal damage, and violating his current Sex Offender Registration requirements on Monday, February 9, 2026.

On Monday, March 16, 2026, he entered a plea of guilty to the criminal damage offence and to violating his Sex Offender Registration requirements.

Nevertheless, he denied all allegations of sexual offences throughout the legal process. On Friday, July 17, the jury returned with a verdict of guilty for rape and not guilty for sexual assault.
