John Dawson, the Crewe Rapist, a 37-year-old man, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after being convicted of raping and abusing a woman.

John Dawson, residing on Ernest Street in Crewe, was jailed at Chester Crown Court on 16 October after being convicted of two charges of rape, intentional strangulation, assault, two counts of threatening to disseminate a personal photo or video, and engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour.

The inquiry commenced subsequent to an accusation of rape, by John Dawson, at a hotel in Crewe.

Subsequent research revealed that John Dawson exerted financial control over the woman by withdrawing funds from her account, accessing her social media and messaging applications, and isolating her from her friends and relatives.

He would also refer to her using pejorative terms and had physically abused her. John Dawson faced charges for the acts, which he refuted, although he was convicted after a trial in July 2025.

A second individual was acquitted of rape during the trial.
