In 2026, Jeremy Wing, formerly of Well Hill, Chelsfield, died at the age of 85 while serving an indeterminate life sentence for predatory sexual offences against young children.
The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO) confirmed that Wing passed away while held at HMP Bure in Norfolk, a specialist Category C custodial facility designed for managing individuals convicted of sexual offences.
Wing, who previously worked as a handyman, possessed an established history of child sexual offending prior to receiving a life sentence in 2002.
The court heard that Wing conspired with co-defendant Brian Hogg, a convicted sex offender whom he met whilst serving a previous prison sentence.
Following their release from custody, the two men targeted two seven-year-old boys at Wing’s residence in Well Hill.
Wing had covertly installed hidden video recording cameras throughout the address to systematically film the sexual assaults for their gratification.
Faced with the evidence gathered by investigators, Wing entered guilty pleas to 18 offences:
- Two counts of rape
- Four counts of taking indecent pictures of children
- 12 counts of indecency with a child
Sentencing the pair in 2002, Judge Andrew Patience QC described their actions as depraved and highlighted the extreme, ongoing risk they presented to young boys.
The judge remarked that it was inconceivable that any future Secretary of State would ever deem it safe to release either defendant back into the community.
Wing remained in secure prison custody until his death at the age of 85.
As with all deaths in penal custody, an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman is underway to establish the formal cause and circumstances surrounding his death.
