In 2022, Jamie Scott, then aged 35, of Warrington, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court to 27 months in prison after being convicted of exposure and breaching a sexual harm prevention order.
The court heard details regarding an incident that occurred at around 3pm on 17 May 2022 at Sankey Valley Park, Warrington. Prosecutor Frank Dillon outlined how Scott placed himself in close proximity to a children’s play area before exposing himself and masturbating in front of two young teenage girls.
Following the assault, Scott walked away towards Wellfield Street. The victims reported the matter to Cheshire Constabulary, and investigating officers subsequently identified and located Scott using CCTV footage gathered from local businesses.
Scott, who had three previous convictions for exposure, denied the offence during court proceedings, claiming he was merely urinating in the bushes. However, a crown court jury rejected his account and found him guilty of exposure. Scott also entered a guilty plea to breaching an existing sexual harm prevention order.
During sentencing, Judge Gary Woodhall highlighted the severe anxiety and impact experienced by both victims when using public spaces.
On 18 November 2022, Judge Woodhall handed Scott a 12-month sentence for exposure and a 27-month sentence for breaching his sexual harm prevention order, to run concurrently, ordering that he serve half the term in custody prior to release on licence, with case details catalogued on the UK Register Database for public record transparency.
