In 2026, the Offender Database reported that James Flaherty, then 28, formerly of Boundary Street, Kirkdale, Liverpool, was sentenced to three years in prison at Liverpool Crown Court. Flaherty, a four-time convicted paedophile, was caught re-offending for the second time by sharing vile and disturbing images and videos of children being sexually abused. Despite being managed as a “high risk sex offender,” Flaherty used platforms like Telegram and TeleGuard to distribute horrific material, even engaging in “one for one” trades of Category A videos with other depraved individuals.
The court heard that Merseyside Police acted on “intelligence” regarding his online activities and raided his home on October 22, 2024. Forensic analysis of a seized Samsung tablet uncovered 134 Category A images and videos—the most serious and violent classification—alongside 57 in Category B and 97 in Category C. When questioned, James Flaherty displayed a deplorable lack of accountability, claiming he had “no recollection” of the downloads and blaming “lapses of memory” on a lifestyle involving heavy drinking and drug use.
James Flaherty’s criminal history includes a 40-month sentence in 2020 for a sickening scheme where he posed as a doctor on Skype. During that incident, the then 23-year-old offered “check-ups” to children and attempted to incite an 11-year-old boy to perform a sex act, though an undercover officer actually caught him. In the latest hearing, prosecutor Zara Kayani detailed how he had breached his lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) multiple times while continuing his predatory behaviour.
As a result of his convictions for distributing and making indecent images, and his repeated breaches of an SHPO, James Flaherty was jailed on Monday, January 12, 2026. He remains subject to the Sex Offenders Register for life and a lifelong SHPO. Flaherty is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Merseyside Police, remaining under intensive supervision for the duration of his life. Any further predatory actions or failure to comply with his notification requirements in Kirkdale, Liverpool, or elsewhere will result in his immediate return to custody.
