In November 2022, Ion Cojan, then aged 37, formerly of Northampton, was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of a serious physical attack against a woman.
The court heard details regarding a Northamptonshire Police investigation into an incident that occurred in February 2019. Prosecutors outlined how the victim responded to an online advertisement posted by Cojan regarding a spare room for rent in Northampton.
The pair arranged to meet in the town centre, where Cojan stated he would take her to a local café. Instead, Cojan drove the victim to Ransome Road near Delapre Park, where he carried out a violent physical assault inside his car before returning her to the town centre.
Northamptonshire Police conducted enquiries involving ANPR camera tracking, CCTV footage analysis, digital review of the rental listing, and forensic testing, leading to Cojan’s arrest and formal charge.
Cojan pleaded not guilty, but was convicted by a jury following a trial at Northampton Crown Court.
