Gareth Napier, who was sentenced to nine and a half years’ imprisonment in 2017 for grooming and sexually abusing a 14-year-old schoolgirl, is now residing in a residential property close to a primary school in Mansfield following his release from prison custody.
Napier was sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court in 2017 after entering guilty pleas to four counts of sexual activity with a child.
The court heard that Napier, who was 33 years old and unemployed at the time of his conviction, targeted the vulnerable teenager, systematically grooming her before carrying out repeated sexual abuse over an extended period of several weeks.
The offending was uncovered after the victim confided in a family member, who alerted police.
During the subsequent criminal investigation, Napier attempted to derail the prosecution by subjecting the young victim to direct witness intimidation.
He established multiple accounts across social media platforms to send threatening text communications demanding that she withdraw her allegations and drop the charges.
Napier, who originally came from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, but was residing in Lincoln when the offences occurred, was released from prison custody last year after serving approximately eight years of his nine-and-a-half-year sentence.
Following his release into the community, Napier took up residence in a flat situated in close proximity to Oaktree Primary School in Mansfield.
In addition to his location, community reports indicate that Napier has established an online presence on Facebook operating under the pseudonyms “Gareth Moore” and “Gaz Moore”.
Under statutory UK legislation, victims of sexual offences retain automatic lifelong anonymity, preventing the publication of any details likely to lead to the victim’s identification.
