Kevin Doig, aged 66, of Bexley, south-east London, has entered guilty pleas to sexually abusing a nine-year-old child and possessing nearly 1,800 indecent images of children, following a career spent in positions of safeguarding authority.
Doig worked for 32 years as a schoolteacher across south-east London prior to his retirement. Alongside his teaching career, he performed as an entertainer in pantomimes, chaired the Young Magicians Club—the youth section of The Magic Circle—between 2011 and 2022, and served for over a decade as the official child protection officer for The Magic Circle.
Appearing in court, Doig formally admitted engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a child under 13. The offence related to the sexual touching of a nine-year-old girl between September 2024 and March 2025.
Under UK legislation, all victims of sexual offences are protected by lifelong statutory anonymity.
In addition to the contact sexual abuse offence, Doig pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children and one count of possessing a prohibited image of a child. Digital forensic examinations revealed that Doig held 1,767 indecent images across his digital devices, with 14 of those files classified under Category A, representing the most severe category of abuse depicted against children.
Doig entered a not guilty plea to a second charge alleging non-penetrative sexual activity with a child under 13 concerning the same victim.
The court granted Doig conditional bail until a further case management hearing scheduled to take place in October, pending the resolution of the outstanding charge and formal sentencing procedures.
