In 2021, David Munro, THEN a 51-year-old convicted sex offender from Johnstone, admitted possessing indecent images of young girls after being caught for a second time.
David Munro, of Johnstone, pleaded guilty at Paisley Sheriff Court to possessing indecent images of children. The court heard that Police Scotland public protection officers conducted a check at his home on 5 February 2021, during which they examined an Xbox console connected to a television screen. Officers observed open browser tabs containing search terms and explicit images of young females. Forensic analysis of the device uncovered images depicting the abuse of girls aged as young as ten, including Category A, B, and C files. Munro, who had previously been jailed for 27 months in September 2018 for downloading and distributing child abuse material, admitted during questioning that he knew the images depicted girls under the age of 16.
Sheriff Bruce Erroch remanded Munro in custody to await background reports before sentencing.
Following his conviction, Munro was placed on the Sex Offenders Register and made subject to public protection notification requirements.
He also remains subject to statutory risk management protocols, pre-sentence probation evaluations, and ongoing monitoring by law enforcement.
