In 2022, Daniel Mortimer, then aged 39, of Plymouth, was sentenced at crown court to 15 years in prison with an extended licence period of five years after being convicted of false imprisonment and the rape of a 15-year-old girl.
The court heard details regarding a Devon and Cornwall Police investigation launched into the grooming, unlawful detention, and sexual assault of a child. Prosecutors outlined how Mortimer targeted the 15-year-old female victim, groomed her over a period of time, and subsequently falsely imprisoned and raped her.
Following police enquiries and subsequent crown court proceedings, Mortimer was convicted of false imprisonment and rape.
The presiding judge handed Mortimer an extended sentence, ordering that he serve 15 years in custody followed by five years on extended licence upon release.
