GWENT Police have published a photograph of a Caerphilly Domestic Abuser Dale Mason who has been sentenced to three years in prison for a series of assaults on his former partner.

Dale Mason, 40, from Brynfedw in Bedwas, Caerphilly, unlawfully entered his ex-girlfriend’s residence in July of this year, in violation of a five-year restraining order against him.

On December 20, Newport Crown Court was informed that he struck her in the face and thereafter threatened to assault her with a baseball bat.

“The victim recalls her whole face moving, her glasses breaking and falling off her face when he hit her and also being frightened as he waved the bat in the air,” the prosecution told the court.

After fleeing to her mother’s home, the victim, who has a child with Dale Mason, called the police and Mason was arrested.

“When police arrested the defendant he was found lying in the victim’s bed with the bat.”

His Honour Judge David Wynn Morgan was shown two pictures – one of her broken glasses and the other of her bruised face.

While being remanded in custody at Cardiff HMP, Dale Mason continued to harass the victim, by getting his cell mates to send her letters under an alias, and call her on his behalf, asking her to give him another chance.

He even called her himself around 90 times, after saving her number to his prison call log under his sister’s name.

It was also heard that Dale Mason has four previous convictions of seven offences including strangulation and battery on the same woman, a woman he had been in a relationship with for eight years.

Judge David Wynn Morgan sentenced Dale Mason to three years in prison, reminding him that “only cowards hit women.”

Upon sentencing, the Judge said: “You were convicted not long ago, in 2023, for two very serious offences against your victim which led to an extensive restraining order being put in place.

“It was not long after it was issued that you breached it, by turning up to your victims house to assault her.

“You need to accept responsibility and stop blaming alcohol for your actions.”

“Everything revealed about you today in my courtroom shows that you are a coward.”
