In 2026, the Offender Register reported that teenage victims demonstrated remarkable courage by reporting online sex offences that resulted in the offender’s imprisonment.
A 14-year-old girl initiated communication with an unknown individual on Snapchat in November 2024. The individual purported to be a 17-year-old boy named Joshua.
The boy sent an image of a young man and claimed it was of himself. Subsequently, he established an online relationship with the victim.
Cruz Buckley, a 21-year-old resident of Bridport, was subsequently identified as the boy.
Buckley sent the victim indecent videos of himself and threatened her with indecent acts during video calls.
The defendant obtained screenshots of the victim without her knowledge and subsequently disclosed them to her family.
Buckley’s account was traced to an address in Bridport after the incident was reported to the police.
In March 2025, he was apprehended, and his mobile phone was confiscated. Upon examination, it was discovered that the victim’s indecent images and videos were present.
Buckley admitted to engaging in sexual communication with a child, sharing a photograph or film of a person in an intimate state with the intention of causing alarm, distress, or humiliation, creating indecent images of a child, blackmail, and causing or inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity.
On Friday, July 3, 2026, he was sentenced to three years and three months in prison at Bournemouth Crown Court. Additionally, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order for a period of 14 years.
