Craig Henton, then aged 54, of Port Talbot, Neath Port Talbot, was sentenced to an extended sentence of 27 years at Swansea Crown Court on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, following a National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation into encrypted child sexual exploitation networks.
The NCA launched an operation in April 2024 after intelligence revealed an encrypted messaging app user was actively discussing imminent plans to commit sexual offences against a five-year-old girl.
Investigators tracked the communications directly to Henton’s address in Port Talbot, where they seized electronic hardware and discovered he had shared a Category C image of the child.
Comprehensive digital forensic examinations across devices seized from Henton recovered 4,570 indecent images and videos on one device—including 918 Category A files depicting the most severe abuse of children and infants—alongside nearly 1,400 additional illicit images on a secondary device.
Chat logs recovered between February and May 2024 revealed Henton admitted to other users that he had been an active paedophile for 25 years.
Henton detailed how he deliberately befriended a vulnerable mother to gain access to her young daughter, grooming the child with the intention of carrying out sexual abuse.
The investigation further revealed that Henton participated in hundreds of discussions concerning child sexual abuse, coordinated meetings to abuse children, and confessed to the historic sexual assault of another child when she was aged between three and five. That child was subsequently traced and safeguarded by NCA officers.
Following his arrest in April 2024 and further arrests in May and June 2024, Henton answered no comment to questions during police interviews.
At Swansea Crown Court in October 2025, Henton entered guilty pleas to all 18 charges on the indictment, including:
- Assault of a girl under 13
- Arranging the commission of a child sex offence
- Distributing indecent photographs of children
- Possessing indecent photographs of children
The presiding judge sentenced Henton to an extended sentence of 27 years, comprising a 21-year custodial term (252 months) and an extended licence period of six years (72 months).
The court also imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), ordered Henton to remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life, and granted the victims indefinite restraining orders.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing extended determinate sentences for serious sexual offenders, Henton is not eligible for automatic statutory release. He is required to serve two-thirds (168 months / 14 years) of his 21-year custodial term in prison before becoming eligible to apply for parole. His earliest parole eligibility date is September 2040. If approved for release by the Parole Board, Henton will remain subject to strict licence conditions and statutory community supervision until the expiration of the full 27-year extended sentence in September 2053.
