Nadeen Shahzad, from Roath, Cardiff, who was sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment for subjecting a young girl to hundreds of rapes across six years of her childhood, has been assaulted inside prison custody.
The attack occurred within the prison estate, where Shahzad was struck repeatedly with punches to the face before falling to the floor, where his assailants delivered multiple kicks.
Shahzad was convicted following an extensive investigation by South Wales Police. The inquiry established that Shahzad carried out a sustained campaign of sexual violence against a young girl known to him. The offending commenced when the child was only eight years old and persisted until she reached the age of 14.
The court was told that rapes took place on an almost weekly basis throughout that six-year timeframe, inflicting severe, lasting physical and psychological harm on the young victim.
Under UK legislation, all victims of sexual offences are protected by lifelong statutory anonymity.
Shahzad, who was 45 years of age at the time of his sentencing, denied all involvement and refused to accept responsibility, entering not guilty pleas to all charges. The case proceeded to a week-long contested trial at Cardiff Crown Court in June 2025, where jurors unanimously rejected his denials and convicted him on all 17 counts of sexual offences.
Appearing for sentence at Cardiff Crown Court on 31 October 2025, Shahzad was denounced by the presiding judge as an arrogant and manipulative offender, described formally in court as a “persistent and relentless paedophile.”
The judge handed Shahzad an immediate determinate sentence of 30 years’ imprisonment. Under statutory sentencing provisions for serious sexual offences attracting terms of this length, Shahzad must serve at least two-thirds of the sentence in closed custody before being considered for release on licence by the Parole Board, alongside mandatory lifetime registration on the Sex Offenders Register and comprehensive protective orders.
