In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Brynley Hocking, then 45, of Chichester Road, Portsmouth, was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court. Hocking was jailed for over three years following a proactive investigation into online grooming and the possession of horrific child abuse material.
The court heard that Brynley Hocking targeted a profile he believed belonged to a 13-year-old girl. During his communications, he attempted to initiate sexual conversations and explicitly stated his intention to meet the child for sexual activity. Unknown to Hocking, the “child” was actually an undercover police officer conducting a covert sting operation to identify predatory behaviour online.
Upon his arrest, a forensic examination of Hocking’s digital devices uncovered a collection of indecent images of children, including victims as young as two years of age. Investigators also discovered extreme pornographic material involving bestiality. A police spokesperson noted that every image possessed by Hocking represented a real child who had been seriously sexually abused and exploited.
On Monday, December 22, 2025, Brynley Hocking pleaded guilty to arranging and facilitating sexual activity with a child, attempting to form sexual communications, and possession of indecent images of children. He was sentenced to three years and four months in prison.
In addition to his custodial sentence, Brynley Hocking was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. This requires him to notify the police of his address, travel plans, and any changes in his circumstances on an ongoing basis to ensure long-term public protection.
