In 2026, Merseyside Police detectives launched a public appeal and released closed-circuit television (CCTV) images of a man they wish to trace in connection with an ongoing sexual assault investigation in Woolton.

The incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday 15 August 2026 at approximately 12:15 AM outside Botanico Bar, situated along Allerton Road in Woolton. According to investigating officers, a woman was waiting in an outdoor taxi queue intending to travel home when an unknown male approached her. The man made unsolicited and lewd comments towards the victim before physically grabbing her into a hug and attempting to kiss her without her consent.

The woman managed to pull away from the suspect and safely entered an arriving taxi a short time later. The offence was subsequently reported to Merseyside Police, prompting an immediate investigation.

Detectives reviewed security camera footage from the surrounding nightlife venue and commercial premises, subsequently issuing an image of an individual they believe holds crucial information regarding the incident.

Detective Constable Tom Gilbert of Merseyside Police stated:
“We think that the man pictured may be able to assist this investigation, so if you know him please get in touch. The victim was left extremely shaken by what happened and we will continue to support her as our work continues. I’d like to additionally ask that anyone in that taxi queue who saw the incident also comes forward with any information.”

Officers are appealing to anyone who recognises the man shown in the CCTV footage, as well as patrons, taxi drivers, and members of the public who were queued on Allerton Road near Botanico Bar during the early hours of 15 August, to assist with inquiries.

Information can be passed to Merseyside Police by telephoning the non-emergency 101 number or via the force’s online reporting portal.

Disclosures can also be provided with complete anonymity through the independent charity Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555 111.
