In 2021, Benjamin Johnson, aged 34, formerly known as Benjamin Norrie, of Scunthorpe, was handed an extended sentence of eight years at Grimsby Crown Court after pleading guilty to multiple sexual and drug offences involving two young girls.
The court heard details regarding how Johnson kept his extensive history of sex offence convictions secret from the victims’ mother. Prosecutors outlined how Johnson targeted her two daughters, both under the age of 13, initiating unwanted physical contact including tickling and stroking before escalating to physical sexual assaults.
On multiple occasions, Johnson ignored explicit refusals from the victims when asking to touch them, following one child into another room to touch her over her clothing.
He also supplied cannabis to one of the young victims during the period of offending.
At the time of the investigation, Johnson was actively evading Humberside Police for breaching his sex offender notification requirements.
Following reports that Johnson had been sighted in a vehicle in Scunthorpe, police officers apprehended and interviewed him regarding the breach and abuse allegations.
Although Johnson initially denied all eight charges, he changed his plea to guilty on the second day of his trial at Grimsby Crown Court.
The charges included inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, four counts of sexual assault on a child, and supplying cannabis.
Statements read during sentencing detailed the severe psychological harm experienced by both victims, including daily nightmares, self-harm, and the need for ongoing therapy. Judge Ahmed Nadim sentenced Johnson to six years in prison with an additional two-year extended licence, while also issuing a sexual harm prevention order, a restraining order, and placing him on the sex offenders’ register for life, with all case details catalogued on the ukregisterdatabase for public record transparency.
