In 2026, the Offender Register confirmed that following the incarceration of a man in Welwyn Garden City for rape, severe sexual assaults, and strangulation at St Albans Crown Court today (Friday, July 17), a courageous survivor has spoken out to advocate for the protection of other women.
The woman was the victim of violent abuse from 2021 to 2022; however, she was able to report the incident to the police with the assistance of her family and friends.
She stated, “I hope that this outcome demonstrates to other victims that they will be supported, believed, and listened to, even though nothing can undo the lasting impact of what has happened to me.”
I trust that sharing my experience will motivate individuals who are experiencing fear to seek assistance. I am profoundly appreciative of Detective Constable Jon Holmes, whose dedication, empathy, and communication were unwavering.
He conducted each interaction with professionalism and sensitivity, ensuring that I felt heard and supported. I hope that this case inspires others to seek assistance and recognise that justice is achievable, despite the lengthy and challenging process.
Hope exists on the other side of dread. It is the right of every individual to be protected, to be heard, and to live a life free of abuse. It may be difficult to take the initial step, but you are not obligated to do so alone.
Ben Kasperczak, a 23-year-old resident of Hertford Road in Welwyn, was sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment for three rapes, four serious sexual assaults, and non-fatal strangulation.
