Axel Rudakubana, aged 20, who is serving a life sentence for the murders of three young children in Southport, has appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court accused of carrying out multiple violent attacks against prison staff.
Rudakubana appeared via video link following his transfer in July from HMP Belmarsh to Broadmoor high-security psychiatric hospital.
The court heard that on 8 May last year, Rudakubana allegedly boiled water in a kettle and mixed it with sugar before throwing the scalding mixture through his cell-door hatch at prison officer Andrew Kemmish.
Prosecutors noted that rapid medical treatment prevented permanent physical injuries.
Two days prior, Rudakubana allegedly threatened a female officer with an unidentified liquid to obtain a newspaper.
He is further accused of punching a male officer who intervened when he attempted to walk past staff administering medication.
During a cell inspection, prison staff discovered sharpened stone pieces, reportedly prised from the floor, wedged beneath a shelving unit.
When challenged, Rudakubana claimed the shards were for self-defence, later alleging that officers had been tampering with his food.
Rudakubana faces charges of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, assaulting an emergency worker, and possessing an offensive weapon inside prison.
He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on 19 October.
