In 2026, a 44-year-old man was sentenced to two years and seven months’ imprisonment at Stafford Crown Court after pleading guilty to subjecting a woman to extensive coercive control, intimidation, and repeated physical assaults.
Andrew Paul Alcock, residing in Brownhills, Walsall, appeared before the court for sentencing on Wednesday 21 October 2026 following an investigation conducted by Staffordshire Police.
The prosecution outlined that Alcock carried out a sustained campaign of domestic abuse against the female victim earlier in 2026. During this period, Alcock repeatedly struck and punched the woman directly in the face, loitered outside her private residence to intimidate her, and routinely demanded access to her mobile telephone to scrutinise her personal communications.
When the victim made the decision to alert law enforcement to the ongoing abuse, Alcock actively sought to undermine the criminal justice process. He subjected her to intense pressure to retract her formal witness statements and maliciously encouraged her to inflict self-harm upon herself.
Alcock gave a “no comment” interview to detectives following his arrest, but subsequently entered a formal guilty plea upon being indicted at Crown Court.
Alcock formally admitted:
One count of engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship
Speaking after the sentencing hearing, Police Constable John Grant, the officer in the case, stated:
“Alcock tormented the victim by continually harassing and controlling her. She showed great strength and determination in reporting what she had been through to us, and I hope his sentence provides her with some comfort as she continues to rebuild her life. We are committed to helping anyone who has suffered coercive control, violence, and other domestic abuse, to bring those responsible before the courts.”
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police added:
“A man has been jailed for carrying out extensive coercive control against a woman earlier this year. Andrew Paul Alcock, 44, of Brownhills in Walsall, was handed a two-year-and-seven-month jail term at Stafford Crown Court on Wednesday 21 October after pleading guilty to engaging in coercive and controlling behaviour. Alcock had punched the victim in the face a number of times, loitered outside of her address, demanded and checked her phone, and when she bravely reported what she was going through to police, Alcock encouraged her to retract her statements as well as to harm herself. Thankfully, the survivor courageously reported what she was going through to us and Alcock was arrested. Though he replied ‘no comment’ in interview, Alcock later went on to admit his offending in court. Along with his custodial sentence, Alcock was handed a 10-year restraining order to prevent him contacting the victim and ordered to pay a surcharge of £228.”
Passing sentence, the Crown Court judge addressed the severe intimidation inherent in loitering, physical violence, and attempting to coerce a domestic abuse survivor into retracting allegations while encouraging self-harm.
The judge ordered Alcock to serve an immediate custodial term of two years and seven months’ imprisonment.
In addition to the prison term, the court granted a 10-year restraining order strictly prohibiting Alcock from contacting or approaching the victim in any manner, and ordered him to pay a statutory victim surcharge of £228.
