In 2026, North Yorkshire Police detectives launched an investigation and issued a public appeal for assistance following a predatory attack in which a man was drugged, sexually assaulted, and robbed in Scarborough.
The victim, a man in his fifties, was seated inside a bus shelter located beneath Spa Bridge when an unidentified woman approached him, initiated a conversation, and offered him a beverage. After reluctantly consuming the drink, the victim lost consciousness. While incapacitated, he was subjected to a sexual assault, and the perpetrator stole his cash, personal items, and several pieces of original artwork consisting of black-and-white pencil-drawn landscape scenes.
Due to the nature of the drugging and subsequent memory impairment, the precise date of the incident has not been established, but police have confirmed the offence occurred between Monday 10 August and Wednesday 26 August 2026.
Detectives released a detailed physical description of the female suspect:
Female aged in her thirties
Wearing noticeable heavy makeup
Distinctive red streaks running through her hair
Dressed in a long black skirt and a black top featuring white markings along the sleeves
Investigating officers are urgently appealing to trace a member of the public who reportedly stopped at the bus shelter under Spa Bridge following the incident to check on the victim, who appeared visibly disorientated and distressed. In addition, police are urging local residents, council street-cleaning teams, and businesses to look out for any discarded wallets or black-and-white pencil landscape drawings abandoned in public areas.
Anyone with information that could assist the inquiry is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police by emailing Laurie Simpson directly at laurie.simpson1@northyorkshirepolice.uk, reporting via the force’s online live chat, or telephoning 101, quoting incident reference number 12260166702.
Information can also be provided confidentially through the independent charity Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555 111.
