In 2026, a woman from Oxfordshire was sentenced to three years and four months’ imprisonment at Oxford Crown Court after being convicted of sexually abusing two young children and standing by while her husband raped an underage girl.
Amy Williams, of Samuelson Court, Banbury, appeared before the court for sentence following a trial that exposed years of systematic abuse committed between June 2013 and June 2017. The victims, a boy and a girl, were aged between two and nine years old during the period of the offending.
The prosecution outlined that Williams was not merely a passive bystander but an active participant in the sexual abuse. Evidence placed before the court detailed how the children were subjected to severe violence and coercion. The victims were threatened with a knife, beaten savagely with a leather belt, and forced to perform sexual acts upon one another under the threat of further physical violence.
The court heard that Williams also directly witnessed her husband, Robert Williams, carry out the rape of the young girl.
Robert Williams was dealt with at an earlier Crown Court hearing, where he was sentenced to 19 years’ imprisonment with a further five years to be served on licence. He had been found guilty of three counts of rape of a child under the age of 13, three counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and two counts of cruelty to a person under the age of 16.
Throughout legal proceedings, Amy Williams entered not guilty pleas and maintained her denials of the allegations through to the sentencing hearing.
In a victim personal statement read during the proceedings, the devastating impact of the prolonged trauma was described, explaining that at one stage the victim felt that life was not worth living, before finding the strength to rebuild and look towards a future.
Following trial deliberations, a jury convicted Amy Williams of two counts of causing or inciting a child below the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity.
Passing sentence, Judge Ian Pringle addressed the serious nature of the abuse against two very young, defenceless children. Judge Pringle sentenced Williams to three years and four months’ imprisonment on each charge, to run concurrently, resulting in a total immediate custodial sentence of three years and four months.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court made Williams subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered statutory notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register.
