In 2026, a man from Kent was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment after being convicted of an extensive campaign of domestic abuse, sexual violence, and repeated strangulation.
Coran John Paul Wohlman, residing in Bearsted, Maidstone, appeared before the court for sentencing on Tuesday 27 October 2026 following an investigation conducted by Kent Police.
On 1 September 2026, following a contested trial, Wohlman was found guilty of seven separate charges on the indictment:
- One count of rape
- One count of sexual assault
- One count of controlling and coercive behaviour
- Four counts of assault by beating and strangulation
The prosecution detailed how Wohlman subjected the victim to persistent coercive control, dominating her movements and environment while carrying out repeated physical assaults. The court heard the violence escalated into severe physical attacks where Wohlman repeatedly assaulted the victim and restricted her breathing through strangulation, alongside committing serious non-consensual sexual offences and rape.
Passing sentence on 27 October 2026, the Crown Court judge addressed the gravity of Wohlman’s violent and controlling domestic conduct, highlighting the severe physical and psychological trauma inflicted upon the victim.
The judge sentenced Wohlman to an immediate custodial term of eight years’ imprisonment.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed an indefinite restraining order strictly prohibiting Wohlman from contacting or approaching the victim in the future. Wohlman was also made subject to mandatory notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life.
