A 67-year-old man from East Yorkshire who utilised concealment applications to store and distribute Category A child sexual abuse images and bestiality material has received a suspended prison sentence at Hull Crown Court.

In 2024, law enforcement launched an inquiry into Gary Oglesby, of Anlaby Common, following intelligence confirming that an online account was being used to upload child sexual abuse material.

Detectives traced the digital footprint to a mobile device operated by Oglesby, leading to his arrest on 18 July 2024. A forensic examination of the seized hardware revealed that Oglesby had installed software designed to hide illicit data, including an application called “Secret Photo Vault”. Among the recovered files was material documenting the sexual abuse of a young boy aged between three and five years old.

Specialist cyber investigators discovered evidence establishing that Oglesby had engaged in the active distribution of illicit content via WhatsApp between March 2019 and March 2020. The files transmitted included:

Category A child abuse images (the most severe classification)

Category B and Category C child abuse images

Extreme pornographic images depicting acts of bestiality

Additional forensic analysis of separate hardware linked to Oglesby demonstrated that he had retained indecent images over a sustained period, with files dating from September 2009 to January 2010.

Oglesby entered guilty pleas to the indictment:

Six counts of making indecent images of children

Distribution of indecent images of children

Possession of extreme pornography

During the sentencing hearing, Recorder Taryn Turner stated that Oglesby’s offending went “significantly beyond simple possession”. The judge stressed that the children depicted in the media were victims of actual physical and sexual exploitation, remarking that every instance of retention, viewing, or transmission perpetuates harm and drives demand for further abuse.

Recorder Turner sentenced Oglesby to two years and eight months’ imprisonment, suspended with a supervision requirement under the Probation Service.

To manage ongoing risk and ensure monitoring, the court imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order containing strict prohibitions regarding internet and device access, ordered Oglesby to comply with notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register for life, and permanently barred him from engaging in regulated activity involving children or vulnerable adults.
