Daniel Cummins, aged 40, of Rutland Walk, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, has received a 22-year extended sentence at Leeds Crown Court after being convicted of ten offences, including seven counts of rape committed against a woman inside her own home.
The court heard that the sexual assaults occurred across two distinct episodes, both marked by heavy substance abuse and extreme physical degradation.
During the initial series of offences, Cummins was present at the victim’s residential property having consumed crack cocaine.
The prosecution outlined that Cummins was fully conscious that consuming the illicit drug substantially heightened his sexual drive while inducing complete indifference toward others.
When the victim refused his sexual demands, Cummins seized her and carried out multiple rapes despite her repeated verbal and physical protests.
Cummins, who was on licence for previous offences at the time, was subsequently recalled to prison custody.
However, following his release, Cummins returned to the victim’s address and subjected her to a second series of rapes spanning several days, characterized by the same combination of aggression, sustained violence, and humiliation.
Sentencing him, His Honour Judge Pema remarked: “It was more than the degradation and humiliation that accompanies every rape. You treated her like a sex toy, throwing her around and raping her. It was clear from your own evidence to the court and also in the pre-sentence report that you knew that the consequences of your taking of crack cocaine would be to significantly increase your desire for sexual gratification. As you said, ‘This is what people who take drugs do.'”
In a victim personal statement, the survivor detailed the enduring mental trauma inflicted by the attacks, stating that she suffers from severe insomnia and flashbacks while living in ongoing terror of Cummins being released.
The court noted Cummins had an extensive record of violent crime, drug offending, and breaches of a non-molestation order.
A pre-sentence report highlighted an absolute absence of remorse, recording that Cummins attempted to deflect guilt by claiming the victim had fabricated the rapes and had received payment to lodge false complaints.
On Friday, 11 September 2026, Judge Pema concluded that Cummins represents a dangerous offender, passing an extended sentence of 22 years.
The sentence comprises an immediate custodial term of 18 years coupled with an extended licence period of four years.
An indefinite restraining order was also issued, prohibiting any future contact with the victim.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing extended determinate sentences for dangerous offenders, statutory release at the halfway mark does not apply. Cummins is required to serve a mandatory minimum of two-thirds (12 years / 144 months) of his 18-year custodial term in prison before becoming eligible to submit an application to the Parole Board for release on licence. If parole is granted, Cummins will serve the remainder of the 18-year term plus the four-year extended licence period under strict probation supervision in the community until the expiration of the full 22-year sentence.
