In this report from April 2021, Stephen McNally, aged 34, of Wansford Close, Billingham, was sentenced to 76 months’ imprisonment (six years and four months) at Teesside Crown Court on 30 April 2021 after pleading guilty to nine child sexual offences.
The criminal investigation commenced following reports of physical sexual abuse and the illicit production of digital imagery involving a young boy.
The court heard that McNally subjected the victim to five separate counts of sexual assault.
During the course of the offending, McNally also took indecent photographs of a child on three occasions and distributed an indecent photograph.
Appearing before Teesside Crown Court in Middlesbrough, McNally entered formal guilty pleas to:
- Five counts of sexually assaulting a boy
- Three counts of taking indecent photographs of a child
- One count of distributing an indecent photograph
The presiding judge handed McNally a total custodial sentence of 76 months’ imprisonment.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation for sexual offences, McNally was required to serve two-thirds (50.6 months / 4 years and 2 months) of his 76-month sentence in prison custody before becoming eligible for statutory release on licence. His projected release date fell in July 2025, whereupon he remained subject to strict licence supervision in the community until the expiration of the full term in August 2027.
