In this report from 2021, Jessica Brennan (formerly Allan Brennan), aged 54, of Bowland Close, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, was sentenced to 22 years’ imprisonment with an extended licence period of four years at York Crown Court following convictions for multiple historical child sexual offences.
The criminal investigation was conducted by North Yorkshire Police’s CID after four female victims came forward to disclose sexual abuse suffered when they were school-aged children.
The court heard that Brennan carried out the predatory offences across an 18-year period between 1998 and 2016.
During police interviews, Brennan denied all knowledge of the allegations, forcing the victims to give evidence before a jury at York Crown Court.
Following deliberations, the jury found Brennan guilty of:
• Attempted rape of a child under 13
• Sexual assault of a girl under 13 by penetration
• Five counts of sexual activity with a child
• One count of assault by penetration
• Two counts of sexual assault
• Five counts of indecent assault
The presiding judge handed Brennan an extended sentence of 26 years, comprising a 22-year custodial term (264 months) and an extended licence period of four years (48 months).
The court also made Brennan subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and ordered that she remain on the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of her life.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing extended determinate sentences for dangerous sexual offenders, Brennan is not eligible for automatic statutory release. She is required to serve two-thirds (176 months / 14 years and 8 months) of her 22-year prison term in custody before becoming eligible to apply for parole. Her earliest date for consideration by the Parole Board is January 2036. If granted release on licence, Brennan will remain subject to strict licence conditions and statutory supervision until the expiration of the full 26-year extended sentence in May 2047.
