Aaron Ashbrook, aged 59, of Windermere Avenue, Warrington, Cheshire, has been sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, 27 August 2026, after being found guilty of eight child sexual offences.
The court heard that Ashbrook was a former scout leader who ran a local scout troop in the Warrington area during the 1990s.
Ashbrook used his trusted standing within the community organisation to target an eight-year-old boy in 1994.
The sexual abuse continued over a two-year timeframe, during which Ashbrook subjected the young child to repeated indecent assaults.
The criminal investigation commenced in May 2023 after the victim made a formal disclosure to Cheshire Constabulary thirty years after the offences began.
Detectives deployed to Ashbrook’s residential property on Windermere Avenue, where he was arrested and taken into police custody.
Officers seized several digital devices during the search of the home for forensic investigation.
Technical analysis performed by specialist officers recovered six indecent images and videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children, with five files categorised as Category A material.
Ashbrook entered not guilty pleas to the entire indictment, sending the case to a four-day jury trial at Liverpool Crown Court.
On 31 July 2026, the jury returned guilty verdicts convicting Ashbrook of:
- Indecent assault on a boy under 14
- Making indecent images of children (CSAM)
The presiding judge handed Ashbrook a total custodial sentence of 12 years’ imprisonment.
