Stephen Degnan, aged 47, of Heckmondwike, was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment at Leeds Crown Court on Monday, 24 August 2026, after being convicted of five counts of rape.

The offences were committed against a female victim in the Kirklees area. Following an investigation by Kirklees District Police safeguarding detectives, Degnan was arrested and placed on trial.

On 24 August 2026, the presiding judge handed Degnan a total custodial sentence of 18 years. In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a restraining order prohibiting Degnan from making any contact with the victim upon his release from custody.
