Trevor Smith, aged 56, formerly of Dedworth Road, Windsor, Berkshire, was sentenced to 21 years’ imprisonment at Reading Crown Court on Wednesday, 19 May 2021, after being found guilty of multiple counts of child rape and sexual abuse.
The court heard that Smith targeted two children under the age of 13. His abuse of the female victim commenced when he was asked to babysit her when she was approximately four years old. Smith indecently assaulted her on that occasion and on at least three subsequent occasions until she was around eight years of age, threatening to place indecent photographs of her in newspapers if she spoke out.
The second victim, a young boy, was systematically abused between the ages of 8 and 12. The court heard Smith groomed the child using sweets, snacks, and pornography before subjecting him to repeated rapes and sexual assaults.
Police launched an investigation after receiving disclosures regarding the offences. Smith pleaded not guilty and moved to trial, where a jury convicted him on all counts.
Appearing before Reading Crown Court, Smith was convicted of:
- Two counts of rape
- Two counts of indecent assault
- Three counts of indecent assault of a male
- One count of sexual assault of a child under 13
- One count of rape of a child under 13
Judge Edward Burgess labelled Smith dangerous and sentenced him to a total of 21 years’ imprisonment.
