On 11 November 2022, Robert Rixon, aged 75, of Porthcawl, was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of 28 child sexual offences, including rape, involving five victims.
The court heard details regarding an investigation launched by South Wales Police in 2018 after a woman disclosed that she had been sexually abused by Rixon during her childhood. The disclosure prompted detectives to initiate a complex inquiry, ultimately identifying four further victims.
Prosecutors outlined how Rixon exploited his position as a swimming instructor at Porthcawl Comprehensive between 2000 and 2005 to sexually abuse three girls aged between 11 and 13. Later, between 2013 and 2015, Rixon hired a pool at Heronsbridge School in Bridgend to run a lifesaving club, where he sexually assaulted two additional girls, also aged between 11 and 13.
Following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court, a jury found Rixon guilty on 28 individual counts of sexual offences, including one count of rape and 27 counts of sexual assault against children.
