In 2021, Christopher Hearsey, then aged 54, of Maidstone, appeared at Maidstone Crown Court, where he was handed a two-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty to sexual offences involving child grooming.

The court heard details regarding an investigation that began when Hearsey targeted an online profile he believed belonged to a 13-year-old female child. Prosecutors outlined how Hearsey transmitted highly sexualized messages and naked photographs of himself with the intent of engaging the child in sexual activity.

In 2019, Hearsey arranged a physical meeting with the child, planning to take her swimming and to dinner.

Unbeknownst to Hearsey, the profile was operated as a decoy by the online activist group Shadow Hunters UK.

When Hearsey arrived at the agreed meeting location, members of the group confronted him regarding his internet communications before Kent Police officers arrived at the scene to execute his arrest.

Following his guilty plea, the presiding judge at Maidstone Crown Court sentenced Hearsey to two years’ imprisonment, suspended for two years.

In addition to the suspended custodial term, Hearsey was ordered to register as a sex offender and was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order designed to restrict his contact with children, with case details catalogued on the UK Register Database for public record transparency.
