In 2026, Jamie Viner, a 45-year-old domestic abuser from Derby, was sentenced to 20 months in prison after assaulting his former partner and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Jamie Viner, of Berwick Avenue, Derby, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday, 20 July 2026. The court heard that Viner assaulted his former partner in Hucknall during their relationship, causing severe bruising to her neck and arms, for which he pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm in August 2024. Following the assault, Viner sent messages and voice notes pressuring the victim to withdraw her police statement to avoid prosecution, leading to his guilty plea in October 2025 for perverting the course of justice. Further charges of intentional strangulation and assault by beating were ordered to lie on file.
The judge sentenced Viner to a total of 20 months in prison. Due to time served on remand, he was released on licence under strict probation conditions.
In addition to his custodial sentence, Viner was made subject to a 10-year restraining order.
This order strictly prohibits him from contacting or attempting to contact the victim, ensuring long-term legal protection and statutory public safety measures.
