In 2023, the Offender Database confirmed that a paedophile who sexually assaulted two children under the age of 13 will be sentenced to an additional four years in prison after a challenge to his original sentence under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme. This will result in a total of 15 years of imprisonment and a 12-month extended licence.
Lee Wilson, then 40, of South Shields, Tyne and Wear, was sentenced on 18 November 2022 for a total of seven counts of sexual offences against children. These included three counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, assault of a child under 13, and the taking of indecent photographs of a child.
Wilson was sentenced to 11 years of imprisonment and a 12-month extended probation at Newcastle Crown Court during the initial sentencing.
The Solicitor General, Michael Tomlinson KC MP, subsequently referred Wilson’s sentence to the Court of Appeal, as he believed that the sentence he had received was excessively lenient.
