On Thursday, June 25, 2026, Liam Christopher Bassett, a 28-year-old rapist of Bournemouth, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court after being found guilty of two charges of rape, assault by beating, and two other offences.
The victim, who was acquainted with the defendant, testified before the jury during the trial about how Bassett had repeatedly forced himself onto her when she refused to have sex with him and had physically abused her, including hitting her in the face.
Police continued to assist the woman after she told them about the abuse, while detectives gathered information to file charges against Bassett eventually.
Bassett was sentenced to 9 years and 9 months in prison at the sentencing hearing.
