In 2026, Finlay Rayner, 24, of Maple Grove, entered a guilty plea to two counts of having intercourse with a minor between the ages of 13 and 15, and on Wednesday, June 24, he was sentenced to three years in jail.
A restraining order prohibiting him from contacting the victim for ten years has also been put in place, and he has been placed on the Sexual Offenders Register indefinitely.
Three years ago, Rayner, who was 20 at the time, messaged a 15-year-old girl on Snapchat to initiate sexual activity, according to testimony given to Liverpool Crown Court.
In a victim impact statement, she said: “Since the incident, I struggle to be around men. This can be in any situation when men are in the room, I feel really panicky. This has also impacted my education as I have had to leave due to panic attacks during the day. I received counselling also for six months.
“Prior to this I would go out every day, at first I wouldn’t go out at all, I go out more recently but nothing like I used to. I have a lot more stress in my life now, when I go out I feel unsafe and need to call someone when I am walking home.”
