In 2024, Jerry Okoye, a sports therapist and rapist from Hornsey, North London, was sentenced to 27 months in prison for sexually abusing a client during a home treatment session.
The 39-year-old Jerry Okoye went to his client’s home in Surrey. Okoye took off his shorts and pants while treating the girl, touched her sexually, and then inserted his fingers through her pants.
Later that day, the victim’s boyfriend called the police to report the incident. The victim had installed a webcam at her home to keep an eye on her new puppy while she was away, and it captured the entire attack.
Three days later, Jerry Okoye was captured, charged, and imprisoned. In a previous hearing, he acknowledged his culpability for both sexual assault by touching and sexual assault by penetration.
The victim claimed that she had initially believed that she was to blame for the assault after Jerry Okoye entered a guilty plea. “I still felt so dirty when the police got to my house, and I hated the fact that I had to stay in the same clothes,” she stated. I was treated quite nicely by the officers. It felt like such a whirlwind, and I simply couldn’t comprehend what had happened.
Even though I knew I had nothing to do with what he did to me, I still struggled to stop blaming myself. I simply felt completely numb. I never got any sleep since he was there in front of me when I closed my eyes.
“I had to start renting out my flat because I never wanted to return.” Before he ruined this, it was my safe refuge. Knowing that there are people like him in the world and you never know who they are makes me feel unsafe and uneasy.
“The fact that Jerry Okoye violated and took advantage of the victim in her own home in his position as her sports therapist is simply untenable,” stated Detective Constable Wood, who conducted the investigation.
I hope the fact that Jerry Okoye has been held accountable for his crimes will enable the victim to move on with her life, even if she will have to deal with the long-term effects for the rest of her life.”
