An individual convicted of sexual assault on a minor has been sentenced to a prison term of nearly two decades.

David Grey, a 50-year-old resident of Batley, was sentenced to 18 years and eight months in prison at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday, August 29. He pleaded guilty to two counts of committing severe sexual assaults against a minor.

The crimes occurred from 2020 to 2023 and were reported to the police in January.

The report prompted an immediate investigation conducted by diligent Kirklees child protection investigators.

Grey was promptly apprehended after the report and subsequently indicted.

In June, he admitted his guilt for the offence during a hearing at Leeds Crown Court and was detained in custody until sentencing.

According to Detective Constable Natalie Green, who is in charge of the Child Safeguarding Unit in the Kirklees District, she stated:

“Grey undeniably presents a substantial threat to young children, and we appreciate the severe sentence imposed by the court.”

“The abhorrent offences he committed against a young victim have deeply affected him and demonstrate the terrible impact these crimes have on victims.”

“I would like to express my gratitude to the victim and her family for their bravery and resilience throughout the investigation, as well as for their willingness to come forward and share the details of the crimes committed by Grey.”
