In 2016, the Offender Database reported that Daniel Praid, then 40, of Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, was sentenced to 10 years in prison. On Tuesday, 15 March 2016, Praid, an IT engineer, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court for sentencing after a massive investigation by the National Crime Agency (NCA) uncovered one of the largest collections of child abuse material ever recorded.

The investigation established that Praid was arrested outside his home on 27 March 2015. Inside the property, investigators discovered more than 300,000 indecent images and approximately 15,000 “vile” films. The prosecution reported that Praid had used his technical expertise to download vast quantities of “vicious” material from the dark web. Furthermore, he had used a hidden camera, concealed inside a plastic cleaning fluid bottle, to record “vile” footage of women and girls getting changed in bathrooms and other private spaces.

Judicial Findings and Investigative Detail

The court reported that Praid’s files included a set marked “personal” and “peep,” which contained “vicious” images he had taken himself. These included “reprehensible” pictures showing Praid sexually assaulting an underage girl whom he had befriended years prior. NCA Branch Commander Paul Risby emphasised that the victims of Praid’s voyeurism were “horrified” at the violation of their privacy. The prosecution emphasised that chat logs recovered from his hard drive revealed he was actively “vilely” sharing images of his own abuse online with other offenders.

The judge emphasised that the sheer scale of the collection—300,000 images—and the “vicious” transition from viewing material to committing physical abuse made this an exceptionally “serious” case. Praid admitted to 28 different charges, including sexual assault, voyeurism, and the distribution of Category A images. For his crimes in Bedfordshire and online, the court determined that a double-digit custodial term was necessary to reflect the “vile” harm inflicted on his victims and the community.

Sentence and Statutory Requirements

For his crimes in England, Daniel Praid was handed:

  • Custodial Sentence: 10 years in immediate custody.
  • Sex Offenders Register: Notification requirements are in effect for life.
  • Convictions: Admitted 28 charges ,including making and distributing indecent images, sexual assault, indecency, and voyeurism.

Monitoring and Public Protection

Praid is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Bedfordshire Police and the prison estate. Due to his “vicious” technical proficiency and the “vile” scale of his digital library, his management is under the highest level of scrutiny by the Public Protection Unit.

As a lifetime member of the Sex Offenders Register, Praid must comply with mandatory notification requirements regarding his future residence. Authorities state that his “vile” use of hidden cameras and his “vicious” betrayal of a teenage girl justify the lifelong monitoring. Any breach of his registration conditions or his licence terms upon release will result in his immediate arrest and return to Birmingham Crown Court.
